Oil & acrylic on canvas

Paintings that hold a human gaze.

I'm Iro Dede — a figurative painter in Athens. I make portraits and street scenes that keep the weight of a real face and a real moment, long after the sitter has left the room.

Why collectors come to me

Not decoration — a presence on the wall.

Three things people keep telling me they value in the work, and in working together.

/ 01

Real likeness, real feeling

Academically trained in figurative painting, I capture a face the way it actually reads — the tilt of the head, the set of the eyes — not a flattering approximation.

/ 02

One-of-a-kind originals

Every painting is a single, hand-worked original. When you own one, no one else has the same piece hanging anywhere in the world.

/ 03

A calm, guided process

From first conversation to framed delivery, you see progress at every stage. No surprises — just a clear, unhurried collaboration.

In their words

What collectors & curators say.

“

The commissioned portrait of my mother stopped me in the hallway for a week. Iro caught something photographs never had.

The artist

Trained in the figure, drawn to the human.

I hold an Integrated Master in Fine Arts from the University of Ioannina and work from a studio in Athens. My subject is almost always people — the faces we pass, the elders whose lives are written into their hands, the quiet drama of an ordinary street.

Every canvas begins with looking, slowly and honestly, until the likeness gives way to something closer to presence.

About the artist

The story behind the brush.

Figurative painter, portraitist, and visual artist working from Athens.

My story

From first sketchbook to master's studio.

I've been drawing faces for as long as I can remember — filling margins and sketchbooks with the people around me. That instinct eventually took me to the University of Ioannina, where I completed an Integrated Master in Fine Arts and learned to paint the figure with the discipline it deserves.

Today I paint from a studio in Athens. My work moves between intimate portraits, character-rich studies of elders, and street scenes where strangers cross paths for a single, painted second. The medium is usually oil or acrylic; the subject is always people.

I've shown work in group exhibitions and taken on private commissions for collectors across Greece and abroad — each one a conversation before it's ever a canvas.

My mission

To make people feel seen.

A good portrait isn't a copy — it's recognition. My mission is to paint people in a way that lets them, and everyone who loves them, feel genuinely seen. To turn a fleeting expression into something you can live with for decades.

I believe original, handmade art belongs in ordinary homes, not only in galleries. So I work to make the process warm, transparent and worth the wait.

What makes me different

A painter, not a print shop.

/ 01

Formally trained

A full Master's in Fine Arts means a foundation in anatomy, composition and colour — the craft behind the feeling.

/ 02

You work with me directly

No middlemen or account managers. Every message, sketch and update comes from the artist holding the brush.

/ 03

Built to last

Archival materials, considered framing and proper varnishing so the work stays as alive in thirty years as on day one.

Let's make something that lasts.

Whether it's a portrait, a commission, or an original from the studio — I'd love to hear what you have in mind.

How a commission works

Four steps from idea to framed piece.

A calm, transparent process — you'll know exactly where things stand at every stage.

Step 01

Reach out

Send me your idea, photos and the space it's for. We talk size, medium, timeline and budget with no obligation.

Step 02

Concept & sitting

We agree references or arrange a sitting. I share a sketch and colour direction for your approval before any paint goes down.

Step 03

In the studio

I paint, sending progress photos at key stages. You give feedback while there's still room to adjust.

Step 04

Framed & delivered

The finished work is varnished, optionally framed, and shipped fully insured — with a certificate of authenticity.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions.

Pricing depends on size, medium and complexity — a small head-and-shoulders study starts lower than a large, full-figure oil. After our first conversation I send a clear, fixed quote so there are no surprises later.

Most portraits take four to eight weeks from approved concept to finished, dried and varnished canvas. Larger or multi-figure works take longer. I'll always give you a realistic timeline up front and flag it early if anything shifts.

Yes. I ship worldwide from Athens using insured, art-appropriate packing for both originals and prints. Shipping and any customs costs are quoted separately based on destination.

Absolutely. Many commissions — especially memorial portraits — are painted from photos. Clear, high-resolution images give the best result; I'll help you choose the strongest reference before we start.

An original is a single, hand-painted canvas — unique and never repeated. A print is a signed, numbered giclée reproduction of an existing painting, produced in a small edition. Originals are one-of-a-kind investments; prints are an accessible way to own the imagery.
